Transit XV versions
Transit XV is at the moment the latest version of Transit software. Currently there are several versions, each designed for a particular market segment.
Transit XV Professional features the full range of functions: configuration and management of the projects, preparing tasks for the translators, document import and export, quality control, translation editor, terminology database management, spellcheckers for any one 3 languages of 18 possible, concordance, Alignment Tool (tool for converting previous translations or translations, made outside Transit systems into Translation Memory).
The following import-export filters are included: AmiPro, ANSI/ASCII, C/C++, HTML, MARTIF, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, SGML, TMX, Ventura Publisher, WordPerfect, Windows Help files (RTF), Windows resource files, XML.
This package also features TermStar XV Professional – a full-functional variety for managing multilingual terminology dictionaries.
Transit XV Professional is available in two configurations:
- network version, allowing multiple users to work on the project simultaneously from several network-connected computers
- single user version for local installing.
This package is designed for project managers or professional freelancer translators who want to make advantage of all Transit possibilities.
Transit XV Enterprise – this configuration is created with regard to the specific of the work flow in translation companies or translation departments in big corporations. It includes all the features of Transit XV Professional plus all the extra filters and spellcheckers for all 18 languages to maximise Transit efficiency in an average-sized or big translators' team. Besides, buying the whole package is cheaper than buying these components individually.
This package also includes TermStar XV Enterprise – full version of a multilingual terminology dictionary with SQL-connection option.
Transit XV Workstation has only the functions, which are indispensable for a translator, working in a team: spellcheckers for any 2 languages out of 18 possible, concordance search. It does not include project management and preliminary data processing tools (no import/export/print functions). Network possibility is enabled.
This version includes TermStar XV Workstation – system, allowing to work with multilingual terminology dictionaries, but without dictionary import/export functions.
The work of project manager and translator using Transit XV Workstation goes as follows:
- Project manager creates a project in the Professional version and performs import and export.
- The translator using the Workstation version, gets all the necessary files including the project files from the manager, in the form of one archive file, translates them with the help of Transit and sends back to the manager all the data, also packed in one archive file.
This version of Transit is designed both for in-house translators and for freelance translators getting the translations by Email and working in team projects.
Transit XV Smart – this version has been made for the needs of freelance translators or small translation companies. It represents a cheaper, slightly limited in functions version of Transit XV Professional, having all the functions for independent work but with some limitations - number of filters, number of terminology dictionaries open at a time, absence of the net work option etc.
Buying this package you get:
- filters for MS Word, MS Excel, Ms PowerPoint, HTML;
- spellchecker for any language out of 18 possible;
- maximum of 3 terminology dictionaries for a project;
- Alignment Tool (for adding into the translation memory the existing translations, made outside Transit system);
This version has following limitations:
- no macros for editing segmentation rules and file type detection;
- no "create extract" function;
- no multilingual project support;
- embedded catalogues are not supported during import;
- no networking capability, rules editing and task distribution functions.
In spite of the limitations, this version allows you to use almost all the benefits of the Transit technology. Of course, this version is addressed mainly to individual workers and not designed for various works of big volume, which are handled by big teams.
Transit Satellite PE is a version for individual freelance translators with limitations to some functions of the professional version. There are no import-export functions, Alignment Tool, concordance search and spellcheckers.
